CROCHET BLANKET SIZE

There are MANY suggested finished sizes for blankets…by designers and by manufacturers.

What is important is who is the blanket for? This will determine the size you seek. So, is it for a newborn? A toddler? A tween? An adult? A bed? If a bed is it for a crib, stroller, daybed, twin bed, queen bed or king or super king bed?

A crochet pattern should always give you a finished size. If gauge is important than that information should be provided as well.

Gauge is how many crochet stitches and rows in a given measurement is needed to achieve the finished project.

Generally all gauge is measured by 4 inches wide by 4 inches length. Also, the hook size to achieve it is noted too. You may also see crochet gauge given in a particular stitch pattern as well, not unusual.

Your tension is important and your crochet technique. You may need to change crochet hook size – larger or smaller to achieve the pattern gauge recommendation.

Be cautious about using the manufacturers wrapper gauge as it does not often represent the crochet designers pattern suggestion.

WHAT’S IN A CROCHET PATTERN

A well written pattern makes you a promise. Information provided in the crochet pattern allows you to complete the crochet project. Without all of it, how will finish? Whether you are buying a book of patterns or from independent designers like me, the standard should be followed.

DIVIDING AND RELOCATING SPRING BULBS

NOT PRETTY at all, BUT…these Daffodill and Iris bulbs are going to be OK. I’ve started splitting them out of my Southern Garden and planting in other areas. Because our pine trees have areas where their roots are dangerous to the lawn mower, I’m putting these bulbs where we won’t strike the roots with the mower blade.

Daffodill bulbs come up, flower then go back down pretty quickly so they will not be there when the Iris bulbs bloom this summer. AND, behind the Iris bulbs is some pampas grass won’t hinderthe Iris bulbs because they too should have flowered and are no longer in their full glory.

This is my plan, I’ll let you know how this works out.

A word of caution at my age its NOT a good idea to dig with a shovel for 8 hours! Every part of my body was good except for my wrists and forearms…yikes. No crocheting, no computing nada nada.

SNOW ON MY SPRING CHERRY BLOSSOM TREE

Sometimes you only have a few days to enjoy natures majesty. At almost full glory the blossoms were covered last night with a very wet snow and then a freeze. And another freeze is expected tonight as well. I am always in awe, unfortunately this morning a little sad too!

The blossom covering reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake ice cream pops!
